Reflection – Opening Reception

December 2, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us at the opening reception of “Reflection” by Saba Farhoudnia. Curated by Adèle Eisenstein.

About this event

Reflection is a series of paintings on mirror surfaces, representing dis-honor killings – just a few of over 5000 women and LGBT+ who lose their lives every year worldwide, giving them back their voice.

The ensemble of individual panels and stories welcomes the visitor into a colorful and intriguing landscape, within which one encounters both the figures of victims who are un-disappeared, as well as their own reflection between Farhoudnia’s masterful brushstrokes. The layers of paint reveal a reflective surface, which envelopes the message directly to the observer that this might have been you – as this tragedy could literally befall any one of us. While dishonor killing is the most extreme end of the spectrum, the subject addressed also touches upon and exposes stratified layers of gender-based violence.

This exhibition is made possible by the Queens Council on the Arts with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.
