DigitalWork NYC is a new program offered through NYC Parks and sponsored by the NYC Economic Development Corporation and the LINK Initiative (Leveraging Innovations and our Neighborhoods in the Knowledge Economy).
As a participant, you will receive free computer training and have the opportunity to “Earn while you Learn” by completing online tasks and getting paid for it immediately! This free program is available to 200 young adults, ages 16-26 who are out of work, out of school, or enrolled in a NYC DOE technical high school. Accepted participants will also be able to complete online tasks for pay and continue to advance their online work skills as a part of the training. Gain valuable work and educational experience and get a head start on jobs in the business, entrepreneurship, and technology sectors today!
This program is offered at 7 Computer Resource Centers located throughout the 5 boroughs. Those who apply and are accepted into the program will devote 20 hours weekly to certification and online work training for a total of 10 weeks. Earn while you learn as you complete and become certified in online work as you build your digital work skills and choose between specializing and becoming certified in either Adobe Creative Suite 6 or Microsoft Office 2010.
In addition to content-specific training, students will also work on resume writing, interview techniques, customer service, time management, and budgeting.
Upon completion of this program, each participant will be able to take a free certification exam (usually $110) and will receive a free 1-year recreation membership. Participants demonstrating outstanding skill improvement will have the chance to win a new laptop. Every candidate will also receive job, internship, and training/educational placement support in the technology and design fields, with the help of an employment specialist.
