It Can Happen Here
September 30, 2018 @ 7:30 pmFree
On Sunday September 30, playwright/actress/audio artist Judith Sloan will premiere “It Can Happen Here,” a new original dramatic comedy commissioned by the Queens Council on the Arts’ (QCA) inaugural Artist Commissioning Program (ACP). “It Can Happen Here” the culminating event of QCA’s ACP inaugural year and is performed by Judith Sloan along with singer/actresses/musicians Meah Pace, Priya Darshini, Lisette Santiago, and Emily Wexler. The performance runs one hour and is free to the public with a reservation.
In “It Can Happen Here”, two hairdressers—one black, one white—in an ever-changing neighborhood in Queens, embark on a new dream. They follow their passion for singing and nurturing a community in the midst of a national political climate of chaos, division and autocracy. Through their journey they reveal stories of their customers, family members and neighbors, including a DACA recipient, an immigration lawyer, and an older man who lost everything in Hurricane Sandy.
