Introducing: The Jam Journal
Thanks to funding from Queens Council on the Arts, Sherese Francis will be launching an online journal for innovative and experimental literary work. Below, Sherese shares the guidelines for the Jam Journal:
Accepting poetry, flash fiction/essays (max. 2 pages), text art, sound pieces and video pieces. Previously published work will also be accepted.
1) Send 1-3 written pieces in Word or PDF
2) Send 1-3 sound pieces via MP3 or Soundcloud, and/or videos via Youtube or Vimeo
3) Send 1-3 images in Hi-res JPG or PNG
Inspired by Saul Williams “Chorus” anthology, this is an experimental section inviting contributors to do collaborations, basically have your words and other artworks be in conversation with other. This can be collaborations of your choice or you can choose to do so randomly where the editor chooses to weave them together. Some examples include contrapuntal, call and response or question and answer pieces with each other’s work, or words and visual/sound art pieces together. For pieces where the editor gets to choose, please send in pieces of written works, such as a stanza, a paragraph, individual lines or phrases that you would like to be joined together into larger collaborative piece(s). If you are a visual or sound artist, you can offer to have your work in conversation with a writer’s work, too. Please let Sherese know if you are interested in this section when submitting.
Along with your submissions, please send your bio and a short paragraph about your connection to Queens, especially your connection to Southeast Queens.
Deadline: August 15th, 2020
