Idlewild Science-in-the-Park “After-School” Online STEAM Workshops: All About Birds

The Eastern Queens Alliance is dedicated to helping children learn science during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore pleased to present a series of Idlewild Science-in-the-Park “After-School” Online STEAM Workshops.
All About Birds
Mondays – 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Students will be introduced to Ornithology, a branch of Zoology, that focuses on the study of birds. Students will learn about evolution, behavior, genetics, life processes, migration patterns, habitats and conservation of birds. Students will learn about the Atlantic Flyway which passes right over Idlewild Park Preserve and the birds who use this flyway as they move between the North and South. They will complete a variety of activities and exercises to ensure their understanding. At the end of this course, students will have a new respect and understanding of the importance of birds on the planet. Ornithology will be considered as a potential career option or a new hobby.
All classes are free. Registration is ongoing.
Children can work according to their own schedule. Past lessons remain posted for access and review.
Recommended for ages 8-12.
