York College Summer Arts Program for NYC Public High School Students (Free)
York College offers a Summer Arts Program for NYC public high school students, with courses on jazz, music business, and computer graphics.
New York City public high school students are eligible for these free courses, through the York College College Now program! Students may enroll in one of the following programs: either jazz, or music business and production, or computer graphics. At the end of the summer, students from all three sections will come together at a ceremony to present final projects.
The Summer Arts Program lasts from July 9 to August 16, 2018, and meets on Mondays – Thursdays, 9am to 3pm. Five or Six college credits will be awarded upon successful completion.
All students must:
Be a New York City public high school student, entering as a senior in September 2018
Have a minimum score of 75 of the English Regents (ELA) or 500 on the SAT Verbal / Critical Reading section
York College Summer Jazz Program Students must:
Play a big band instrument (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, or drums) and read music. No previous jazz experience necessary. Prepare a solo piece of any kind or genre. Auditions to be held in the Milton G. Bassin Performing Arts Center, on Mon 5/7, Mon 5/14, Mon 5/21 from 5pm to 8pm. Please contact Dr. Tom Zlabinger for more information.
Music Business and Computer Graphics students must:
Submit proof of immunization paperwork (must be originals)
Computer Graphics students must also:
Submit a portfolio demonstrating talent in art (will be contacted with details)
